It reminds me of the academic question of whether it would have been better [a lesser of two evils] for the US to side with Hitler rather than Stalin.

When you line up the butchers of history it is tough to rank them in butchery. One seems worse, but he had more time than the other butcher, etc. Pol pot didn't get that many, only a million; but he was really fast.

They do tend to share a common thread. The world ignores butchers as long as they butcher their own.
