What I think most Westerners fail to grasp is that Shiite ambitions (Iran, and now most of Iraq... Syria & Lebanon to some degree) can be played off against Sunni ambitions (Saudi Arabia, Gulf Monarchies, Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, etc).
This can be very good for progressive, modernistic western democracies.
(Talking loudly while shooting yourself in the foot over-and-over though... is NOT likely to ever prove useful. In fact, it has, (& is), weakened our strategic position SERIOUSLY.)
Why we fritter away our hundreds of billions on brain-dead and failing too simplistic 'policies'... our future competitors (China, Russia, etc.) have made SERIOUS gains. |
