Rich,

I agree and disagree. Israel has a population of 6.7 million BTW, and I think that what they fear most is that in a world where any who oppose them have nuclear weapons, they will be hard pressed to use their overwhelming conventional military superiority in the region to influence others to allow them unilateral control over resolution of their interterritorial and extraterritorial disputes.

At the same time, there is little proof that Iran will have nuclear weapons any time soom. Last year an authoritative report was written that concluded that it would take them ten years. Worryingly, though, there is lots of talk that Iran is reaching "the point of no return" with nuclear weapons going to be aimed at Israel, and with mid-term US elections coming up and Republicans desparate, we'll see if media manipulation of the Iran "threat" is scheduled to coincide with their political interests, as it was in 2002 with the Iraq "threat".
