OT-lol: The article in Scientific American really changed my mind about a lot of things regarding understanding i.e. the expert mind provides knowledge directed perception. I had always thought native intelligence was more important and I was dead wrong as are so many others.

For hundreds of thousands of years we humans (including Neanderthal) lived with animal parts, sinew and wood. And in all that time we never figured out the bow and arrow or spear thrower.

How is that even possible?? Because we learn, not deduce, and through learning develop sub sets of software which facilitates further learning which allows for knowledge guided perception!!!!

In every country on earth going back to the beginning of civilization, it has been the curious (read liberals) who have given us strides in learning. The conservatives in every country for all time just went along with the status quo (that is the definition) and killed the curious ones who broke the "TABOOS". So no learning could take place!!

And as such, most people all over the world, for all time, never developed subsets of software capable of knowledge guided perception. The Greeks almost made critical mass i.e. existential reasoning based on knowledge.

The curious usually learned at the risk of life and limb by the non curious e.g. Coprincus and Galillao.

So now we can better understand the "dark ages" and the 1960's. Now the whole world is learning at the speed of light and the world is metamorphasing into an existential world based on knowledge guided perception.

I am sure sentient beings in outer space are totally existential-lol.
