Singapore is a police-state, in many ways little different from Stalinist Russia.

I have a friend who grew up there and was very happy to go to college and law school in California. Although he's legal here in the U.S. I don't think he has gone back to Singapore even to visit for more than 20 years.

His Dad worked in New Zealand as the President of the Singapore based Hong Leong subsidiary CDL, which owns a large number of the hotels in New Zealand through their Millennium & Copthorne Hotels New Zealand Limited subsidiary.
