If you're gonna fully hedge a short with options, often better to
just do a synthetic short via puts/calls. Especially for retail
investors, who usually don't get the interest/t-Bill advantage
of institutional shorts; and so tie up more capital than with
a synthetic -- at least unless it moves well against you. But
often shorting can just be a waiting game at low volatility;
especially with stocks not high on the short radar.
