You missed the references to "goals."
I'm not suggesting that the goals have been achieved.

However, efforts have been made in that direction over the past decades. I daresay that the people blown up, killed or maimed in such efforts felt the very real impact.

The rhetoric of the Muslim extremists is certainly not vague.
I, for one, am not willing to take comfort in the vague notion that they lack the means to dominate and control.
They seem to have access to money and safe havens. They have the burning desire to succeed and the benefit of followers who are all too willing to be used. They have successfully perpetrated terrorist acts already. They have made inroads in
European governments.

I don't think that taking the threat seriously amounts to
being fooled by vague rhetoric.
