Perhaps you don't believe it's real or an issue about which to be concerned because you believe it's been contained.

Terrorism is real. It is a "threat" that needs to be addressed. It does not pose a threat to our very existence, nor can it ever.

I consider that fairly calm, logical analysis, not rhetoric. I didn't even use any adjectives.

I don't recall ever harping that 9/11 could have been prevented. But with the luxury of hindsight, the same kind of careful intelligence work the Brits used this year might have stopped 9/11 in its tracks. We will never know.

I am reasonably sure that if Bush, Sr. had occupied Iraq in 1991, 9/11 would still have happened. Just as I am sure that invading Iran in 2006 or 2007 will only increase international terrorist activity by another several magnitudes.
