OK, explain how 150 million Muslims from several dozen different countries will coalesce and mount a war that threatens our very existence as a nation and a civilization.

You might begin by reviewing the status of Israel and its enemies. Have any of the Arab nations coalesced to destroy Israel? of course they have but they do not brag about it. The idea is to hit, run and not be hit. That is why no government has stepped forward and announced themselves as the country declaring war on the US , Israel etc.

This is not a war like any fought before. I'm surprised you can't see that with your extensive experience in government.

The leap from attitudes in a minority of a religious group to Hitler's Wehrmacht sweeping across Europe is way beyond stretched.

Hitler began as a minority. Like the terrorists of today, he lied, threatened, intimidated and murdered to achieve his ultimate goal of leading the Germans to another war. While Hitler did not use religion like the muslims are doing, his use of propaganda and intimidation became a religion of Nazism.

Operationalize it and tell me exactly what we have to defend against while we are "standing tall" and all those other cool metaphors

This is like one those famous "Bush is bad" poll questions. It presupposes that there is no legitimate threat by any or all of the terrorists groups because they cannot coalesce. :-)
