Terrorism is real. It is a "threat" that needs to be addressed. It does not pose a threat to our very existence, nor can it ever.

Well, at least we agree that it's real and a threat that needs to be addressed. I lack a sufficiently powerful crystal ball to concur in a broad statement that terrorism could never pose a threat to our very existence. Nuclear warheads in the wrong hands could certainly do a lot of damage, even if they didn't entirely eradicate western civilization.

Even if our very existence were not threatened, persistent
terrorism could, in my view, eventually change the way we live. In some ways, it already has.

I am reasonably sure that if Bush, Sr. had occupied Iraq in 1991, 9/11 would still have happened. Just as I am sure that invading Iran in 2006 or 2007 will only increase international terrorist activity by another several magnitudes.

The first statement indicates that terrorism would continue regardless of whether a given state is occupied and the second statement implies a cause and effect relationship between occupation/invasion and increased terrorism.

Hmmm.

I guess I lack the prescience to be so sure of anything.
Particularly what appears to be two different POV's at the same time:-)

I read you loud and clear WRT your reaction to the political rhetoric of terrorism. I don't like to listen to noise from extremes of the political spectrum.

But I don't think that terrorism is a "ghost", as has been posited by another poster.
