<The invasion itself succeeded rather easily> The invasion did not succeed at all. The US has never gained control of Iraq -- not for five minutes -- and the US cannot control Iraq today, nor will it control Iraq in the future. For an invasion to succeed you must at some point establish control. We will never gain control of Iraq because we are so widely despised within Iraq, within the region around Iraq and in the world at large for this blundering invasion. Oh we did manage to kill a lot of people if that is your measure of success, but we never gained control of Iraq -- and the killing grinds on day after day in this failed invasion.
