Oh but you miss the point. If we pull out tomorrow or stay for a hundred years the outcome will go against us because we will never be wanted nor trusted nor effective in the region again -- certainly not in coming decades. We have set in motion forces that deliver the region to our enemies. We have effectively lost the middle east, lost control over the oil and lost the ability to do much for Israel. I cannot think of a larger strategic defeat. We delivered the most strategically important part of the world to our enemies, and vastly improved their standing in the world. This is no tactical defeat. Nor is it a defeat that can be counted in numbers of body bags. This is a fundamental long term strategic defeat. To call this a successful invasion is just blather.
