Laz...the last part of your post talks about possible solutions and I think I agree with your general conclusions.

Kurdish groups are setting up headquarters in N. Iraq and that's really ticking off the Turks. I think we need to crack down on that to at least ensure the stability of THAT part of the country.

Partitioning the country might be best, but there are at least 3 million Shia in the Baghdad area and that Al Sadr guy ain't gonna go for any easy solutions. That guy ran like heck when the U.S. was looking for him and I don't see him popping his head up any more than he has to.

I've always thought they should have taken Al Sadr out from the beginning along with his top guys. They've let him build up this political power base to go along with his thuggish militia guys. I think they should STILL take him out and blame it on the Sunnis or whomever.
