Expensive wars and U.S. military troops currently in 135 countries around the globe:

The financial and psychological costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue to climb while a stubborn Iran is unwilling to negotiate creating the possibility of yet another military confrontation. According to a study by JE Stiglitz (Winner of the Nobel Prize in economics, 2001) and L. Bilmes (Harvard lecturer) the total cost of the Iraqi war could top $2 trillion.

Weakening US Dollar:

The US dollar has dropped against the Euro from a high of 121.29 to 85.16 on Aug. 28, 2006; a drop of 29.78%. Due to the drop in the value of the greenback, several countries like China, Italy, Russia, the UAE and Qatar are diversifying away from the US Dollar into the British Pound and even Gold.
