None of that matters. Iran in it's present form won't last more than a year if the US plays its cards right. It's been related to me by an Iranian friend of mine that between 80-90% of Iranians despise the mullacrasy. The only thing keeping Irans general populace in check is ruthless suppression.

I believe that the mullacrasies greatest fear is its own population. Historically speaking what usually happens when the ruling class of a non-democratic country feels threatened internally is first suppression and then introducing a theme that leaders feel will nationalize and distract citizens at the same time. In Irans case, it's got multiple themes all laying blame to enemies outside the country, the Jews, the American bully, nuclear power, emphasizing Iran as the poor victim of the west etc. If it's a theme built on historical prejudices so much the better for distraction purposes. These themes are also accompanied by a particular sensitivity to outside news sources that might paint a less than flattering picture of the performance of their national leaders.
