Well, I am definitely smiling about the lack of hurricanes, as are, no doubt, the residents of the Gulf Coast.

Speaking of hurricanes, the History Channel has been running a show about a hurricane in 1932 -- at least Cat 3 -- that damaged every structure on Long Island and caused major loss of life and damage throughout New England. 900 dead, approximately.

People in the Northeast are complacent about hurricanes because they are so rare. A similar hurricane now would cause many billions of damage.

I don't know anything about Pacific hurricanes and typhoons. Do they ever strike the US?
