Technically, Memphis, St. Louis, etc., aren't "East Coast," although they are east of the Rockies.
That's not intended to be snarkey. To me, anything west of the Rockies is sort of a blur. Montana, Wyoming, Oregon, what's the diff?
I recognize that the East Coast does have earthquakes, every century or so. I've experienced a couple of teeny tiny ones, from time to time, sort of like a hiccup.
The strongest earthquake to hit Virginia was estimated at 5.9, in 1897, I imagine close to Kentucky. The strongest earthquake to hit Maryland was a 2.5, in 1990. We're closish to MD, and I think I may have felt that one. earthquake.usgs.gov
Edit: the Va earthquake was in Petersburg, almost West Virginia, in the mountains, which makes sense.
