If the US government financed and protected Hizbollah I would be harshly critical of their behavior. But our responsibility is first and foremost with what WE do. If WE commit war crimes or if WE provide the money and means to those who commit war crimes, then WE should do everything in our power to stop ourselves first. Then, and only then, do we have the right to denounce the artocities of others and exercise the opportunity to show the world what real global leadership for human rights, rule of law, democracy and freedom really means.

What leadership in these values does NOT mean is that we have the right to commit atrocities. Every atrocity we commit, finance, enable or endorse cuts into the heart of what it is to be America.
