It isn't arguable. It is considerably more difficult. Middle management, as practiced prior to the mid-1980's has disappeared. What exists now is very different and the barriers to entry are much higher.

If qualifying for food stamps doesn't put you in the lowest quintile, then I don't know what it is. True, some stores have a high enough volume to make that untrue. But others don't. I was an MIT and was about ready to qualify for a store. I have a pretty good idea what a manager could get. Luckily for me, I landed a job in my field. So I could say bye bye to 80-120 hour work weeks...
