I don't really know. I bought 100 contracts for a dime. I think at that point in time CSCO was $17.25 so you could probably have bought as many contracts as you wanted for a dime, they were ~17% out of the money and expiring in two weeks.....

Actually, I looked it up and I bought 100 Sep CSCO $20 calls on Aug 7th for a dime each. At the time I think CSCO was only $17.30 or so. In response to your question (how many can you buy) if you are willing to take that kind of risk (CSCO will rise ~20% in 6 weeks) I'm pretty sure you can buy as much as you want. Worst comes to worst you would have to pay 15 cents for what is now worth $2....
