That is an excellent example.

"we have taken out an ally of Al Qaeda". GWB Mission Accomplished speech.

I was talking to many people in the mainstream after 9/11 and up to the defeat of Saddam. At the time very few could distinguish OBL from Saddam Hussein. That was for reasons that were obvious at the time. There was a lot of confusion about Muslim leaders and enemies of the US. When I tried to explain the role of Moktada Al-Sadr on these threads, the same people who now figure that to be common knowledge, called me an over the edge nut. Our knowledge base has come a long ways since then. But it hasn't been advanced one whit by bashing Bush or by bandwagonning in his support.

So back to your question. There was enough momentum behind Al-Queda that an entire nation (Afghanistan) had fallen under it's domain. The idea was being entertained by Muslims all over the world in every nation as a possibility for the future world rule of a Caliphate government. It was a Sunni Muslim movement. Again very few people on the street knew of any reason that that didn't include all Muslims.

So at the time the Al-Quaeda movement definitely had potential to link with other governments besides Afghanistan and Saddam's Sunni regime was a prime candidate.

Did Bush lie? Or did he understand the momentum, the linkages and the potential problems differently than you did. Has the whole dynamic of the Al-Quaida movement changed? If so, why do you think it has changed?

Many things can be true but you don't understand them so you call them untrue. Are you lying, or just talking about something as an uninformed participant. Being uninformed and wrong does not make you a liar for the simple reason that lying requires the spokesperson to have intent to deceive. When that is based on something as insidious as getting their candidate elected I consider it dishonorably evil.

Like I said, that issue is not resolute with regards to Bush.
