The Iranian hostage situation was 25 years ago. It is only slightly relevant to anything happening today. But two facts about it to remember:

- The Shah could not be saved. He self-destructed after becoming a playboy tyrant who ignored most of his people.
Carter was not to blame for his fall.

- The hostage rescue mission of Carter's failed, and that was not his fault either. if it had succeeded, Carter would have been hailed as a hero. But it was a very daring risky mission.

- Reagan's people bribed the Iranians to hold oto the hostages until after the election, then rewarded them with huge arms shipments. Reagan's people, led by Ollie North, continued supplying Iran with arms despite publicly denying they ever "negotiate with terrorists",
