And of course the government was pro-Syrian.

That's the way it goes.

There were huge anti-Syrian demonstrations!!

The majority of American people are opposed to the Iraq War. That doesn't make any difference.

What right did the Syrians have to overstay their welcome

Because the pro-Syrian government let them.

It's just like in Iraq where the majority of the Iraqis want the US out of Iraq, but the Iraqi government doesn't care what the Iraqis want. That's what democracy is all about.

What.. all three of them?? Was the incarceration of 3 Lebanese, one of whom killed a 4 year old girl with a rifle butt, worth unleashing this war?

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel is prepared to discuss freeing Lebanese prisoners for two soldiers held hostage by Hizbollah if the two are handed over to the Lebanese government, a senior Israeli political source said on Thursday.

Any negotiations, which would likely take place through a mediator, would be conducted with the Lebanese government and not the Hizbollah guerrilla group, the source said.

The source said Israel's position was conveyed to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Wednesday. Israel has previously said the two had to be freed unconditionally as part of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended fighting with Hizbollah.

Israel launched its war on Hizbollah after the group captured the two soldiers in a cross-border raid on July 12. A shaky ceasefire took effect on August 14.

The source said Israel wanted to ensure any prisoner swap would be seen as a gesture to Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and not taken as a victory by Hizbollah. [ROTFLOL, as if no one is going to figure out that Olmert capitulated.]

Hizbollah wants Israel to release thousands of Arab prisoners in its jails, including Lebanese, in return for the two soldiers.

Israel and Lebanon do not have diplomatic relations, which means any negotiations would have to go through a third party.

Part of Syria YA Dumb@ss.. It's NEVER been recognized as part of Lebanon. If it had been recognized by the UN as part of Lebanon, Israel would have turned it over to them in 2000.
But it wasn't.. so why are you scraping the bottom of your barrel of excuses and justifications to fight your losing battle??

So the occupation of Sheeba Farms is an act of war against Syria. Excellent. Thanks for your cooperation.

I'm sure you're already contemplating trying to widen this discussion to the plight of the Palestinians and the illegality of Israel's existence as justifications for Hizbullah's aggression and war crimes.

You don't read very well. Then again you may have already forgotten what was said.

As I mentioned many days ago, Israel lost this one. Hezbullah is more popular in Lebanon and more popular throughout the mid-east. Israel has jeopordized it's relationship with Egypt. The re-building of southern Lebanon will be done by Hizbullah. Did you see the signs that Hizbullah put up on the piles of rubble in Southern Lebanon? "Made in the USA."

And at the end of all of it, Israel lost another 150 Israelis and is going to exchange prisoners with Hizbollah through a third party. Which is what Hizbollah wanted from the beginning. Hezbullah wins.

Hizbollah = 2
IDF = 0

Enjoy the show,
jttmab

P.S. As the thread master of spelling, do you have a preference in spelling: Hezbullah vs. Hizbullah? I see it both ways.
