The one board per ticker has the definite merit of forcing users to engage in a true dialog. It drives traffic and promotes the bona fide exchange of information.

Yes, there are always some problem moderators. Yet, thousands of boards have few if any issues with how they are managed. It's a handful of moderators and/or boards that represent the vast majority of problem deletions. It's invariably the dozen or so controversial boards de jour that are the focus of the deletion debate. That 1% of active boards will represent >80% of the TOS reports and deletions on any given day.

It's an enormous job to moderate a board with hundreds, even thousands of posts a day. And, it is a thankless job most of the time. Users who are both willing and able to objectively take on moderating the hottest and most controversial boards usually are not standing in line asking for a turn. Then we have the superconducting supercolliders who seek out these very boards just for the opportunity to jump into the dialog and intentionally become part of the very problem they are so vocally critical of. Almost without exception it is the behavior of relatively few users that drives the problem that ultimately lands on the moderators' heads.

Those of us who have been around for the past decade or so know that's just the reality of controversial boards. My brand of rhetoric is good, yours is not. My repetition is valuable; yours is noise. I speak truth; you speak falsehoods. My opinions are based on good reasoning; your views have no merit. The names change, but the underlying song stays the same.

There is a board here that I would very much like to assign a moderator to - the Bob Brinker board. I'd like to assign a new moderator to the PLNI board on iHub. However; all of the volunteers thus far have clearly exhibited having an iron in those respective fires, so no changes have been made since no better alternatives have appeared. That too is the nature of the beast.
