the enjoyment of watching a basher get kicked in the teeth by pumpers?

Ask around. Anyone who's known us (especially me and Dave since we've been around so long) any length of time, may say lots of bad stuff about us or even indulge in personal attacks they should know are TofU violations (Hi, Michal -- hope you enjoyed my PM <g>), but I doubt a single one would say that we get our jollies watching bashers get kicked in the teeth.

the number of hits on that board?

My life would actually be easier with a lot fewer hits (like the recent $10k hardware purchase to try to keep up), and that that board is so popular isn't something that fills me with a swelling sense of pride, either.

does this have anything to do with the entertainment value?

When I first saw that board, I thought it was (and commented to someone that it looked like) a POS tout job where most of the inhabitants got just what a joke it was. At that point, it was entertaining. It's evolved into something far more sinister.

I'd be very curious if Peter happens to end up being the moderator of a board that later becomes the tout du jour. Now *that* will be entertainment!

I've got ideas that I'm confident will make that situation a lot better and not be as painful as some think, and it's actually a very formulaic thing, which appeals to me.

But we don't make any changes huge or quickly. Just know that we do see a problem and intend to fix it, and not with bandaids.

Dave's point about the thanklessness of moderating (especially when done well and conscientiously) is an important one. Insanity is an important qualification for the "job", and why he's not getting a lot of qualified takers for a particular opening.
