OLEDs look like competition for Iridigm. Does anyone have any insight into what is going on in the field of brighter displays?

I'm guessing that the specs listed for the Nokia 6215i on phonescoop are a mistake. The specs on the Nokia site dont mention a full color OLED main display.

There are two display companies that have targeted the handset display market for OLED's in the near-term....AUO and Samsung SDI. AUO was the first to market and they supplied the OLED display for the BenQ S88. The handset and display were reasonably well received, but I believe that AUO had substantial problems with the yields on their OLED displays. It was recently reported that AUO had shifted their OLED engineers back to TFT displays.

The Samsung SDI initiative is substantially more ambitious. I believe they are investing $300 million to allow production of 1.5 million OLED displays a month starting in January. Obviously those numbers arent huge, but it should be enough to prove out (or disprove) the overall performance of OLED's.

Here is an article talking about Samsung SDI's efforts....

OLED's still have various technical challenges to work out (lifetime, manufacturibility, cost) but if they can manage to overcome these issues, they are likely to be a formidable challenger to the Iridigm displays.
