AFTER releasing its first generation of personal computer-digital video disk (PC- DVD ) early this year, Creative Technology Ltd has announced its next generation PC- DVD kit called the Creative PC- DVD Encore Dxr2.
PC- DVD is another form of faster and higher-capacity compact disk (CD) that holds video, audio and compatible data for home entertainment, computers and also business storage.
According to Creative's associate marketing manager Lee Guat Keow, Encore Dxr2 offers crisp, high-definition motion picture experts group ( MPEG )-2 with Creative DynamicXtended resolution picture enhancement technology.
It enables simultaneous display on television using NTSC and PAL formats with either composite video or high-quality S-Video, and also makes playback of video CD (VCD) MPEG -1 movies possible. "The solution provides full compatibility to all CD-ROM formats including previously unsupported CD-Recordable media," Lee said.
The PC- DVD drive comes with Dolby digital (AC-3) output for 5.1 multi- channel amplifier. Powered by a 20-speed drive with data access of 2.7 megabytes per second (MBps), the drive is designed to offer twice the speed of previous generation of DVD drives.
Other advantages of this PC- DVD include storage capacity of up to 17 gigabytes (GB), 26 times larger than current CDs, displays cinema-standard quality, up to eight tracks of language selection for DVD titles plus 32 choices of subtitles.
The Creative PC- DVD Encore runs on multimedia personal computer (PC) with 100-megahertz (MHz) Pentium or higher, 16 megabytes of random access memory, super video graphics array (SVGA) graphics adapter with 1MB RAM, peripheral component interconnect (PCI) slot, Sound Blaster or compatible audio card, amplified speakers or headphones and Windows 95.
"PC- DVD Encore is a future solution and we are offering tomorrow's technology with tomorrow's pricing," Lee said.
The PC- DVD Encore kit is scheduled to be available locally early next month and will be offered at the suggested retail price of RM1,200.
"We hope that the right pricing and marketing strategies will help widen and increase the DVD market," said Creative's regional sales manager Edwin Loh.
The company has four distributors - Micro-D (M) Sdn Bhd, Syscom (M) Sdn Bhd, Cyberstar (M) Sdn Bhd and Dunco Sdn Bhd.
