Minago - Thompson Nickel Belt - Manitoba
Located 225 kilometres south of Thompson, Manitoba and 100% owned by Nuinsco, the Minago sulphide nickel deposit was discovered by Amax as part of a regional exploration and 14-hole drill program conducted between 1966 and 1972. Subsequently, Granges (1973-1976) drilled eight holes and Blackhawk Mining (1989-1991) drilled 40 holes - both companies also commissioned metallurgical, mining, milling and resource studies.
With a NI 43-101-compliant measured and indicated resource of 29,840,000 tonnes grading 0.64% nickel and an additional inferred resource of 27,230,000 tonnes grading 0.67% nickel, Minago is one of Nuinsco’s most significant development projects.
Drilling in 2005 indicated higher grades within the Main Zone, which hosts the entire resource, and showed the potential for additional tonnage in the North Limb as well. Of particular note was Hole N-05-05 in the Main Zone, which returned an interval of 245.9 metres grading 0.68% nickel, including 28.9 metres grading 1.25% nickel, 16.9 metres grading 1.78% nickel, and 59.4 metres grading 1.09% nickel. In the previously little-explored North Limb zone, another hole intersected 81.3 metres grading 0.59% nickel and 7.6 metres grading 0.65% nickel within 337.9 metres grading 0.33% nickel, clearly indicating the untapped potential of this area.
