To annihilate almost all population of USA (and the world)
there is no need for Russians to send missiles to USA they can just detonate all their Nuclear arsenal on their own territory.
MAD is the only protection against Russian and China missiles.

Missile defence system might work against
single or few missiles send by madman from Korea /or Iran
