If I were a candidate running this fall, I would focus on responsibility and accountability in our domestic policies and our foreign policies. I would demand that we understand and define international threats so we respond to the most important; put forth a program that would actually cut the deficit instead of this smoke and mirrors special-supplemental-earmark BS that Congress does now; come up with a strong legislative package that lets us track terrorists and uphold our Constitution at the same time, and so on.

To a large extent, not doing all the excessive crap this Congress and administration have done would go a long way to get the support of many independent voters. They want reason and sense and balance in government again.
