"I admit it is possible that Israel's border with Lebanon might become more peaceful, but overall, Israel's standing with MODERATE Arabs took another pounding."

Moderate arabs or moderate arab regimes??? With the former, sure israel is the bad guy but even there after watching the shiaa death squad militias in iraq, sunnis will think twice about this. Now Nasralla has apologized to the lebanese people, albeit disingenously for starting this thing. He knows he cant rule lebanon, only the shiaa part and he doesnt seem to be in favor of a shiaa/lebanon split with the creation of Palestine #2 on israelis northern border. He doesnt want to be gaza, i suspect. Surviving israeli ground attacks is one thing--its quite another to have yourself destroyed over and over again as goes on in gaza.
Even iran has made some overtures for a peaceful solution on the border. Kofi and 15k troops will be between the two warring parties. Not all bad stuff at all. And since ownership of land is not the issue on the northern border, peace will be easier to achieve. There are no folks on the lebanese border other than some pal refugees who see israel as their home. Yup they may be willing to support the pal claim but thats a far cry from committing suicide for pals, especially since there is no love loss between shiaa lebanese and pals.
