Yes all that stops the Middle East from being paradise is the people who live there. With Desalinization plants and easily accessible solar power and proper irrigation the place could be magnificent, and with the unlimited sources of revenue that tourism and oil and technology could bring, they would be hugely prosperous. That however doesn't promote the agenda of Islam, who needs buckets of poor people to become bombs.
