I see a second and third (star wars or babylon five) type industrial revolution. I don't agree with Einstein that the fourth world war will be fought with sticks and stones. We will build some margin of survival into our defense systems of the future, I think.. And I although I see these two revolutions clearly, and can see some of the technology that will drive them, barring running out of oil and its products all too soon, (tarmac is so much better than concrete for useable roads..) we will get there by the end of our lifetimes, for at least the next rev. But the problem is timing. When? Will the next IR come before or after a significant worldwide recession? What I cannot see as well, is will there be an acceptable mechanism as Keynes predicted, to vanquish inflation? Is there a money-distribution mechanism that will without draconian Roman regulations disallow inflation and allow real growth and innovation? Or are we doomed to be controlled in our progress by the boom-bust that interest rates and money printing deficit spending governments have seemingly condemned us to? Is the issuance of money inherently a system that invokes the tragedy of the commons, or is it controllable by some means?
