I don't know the chemistry involved but I wonder if the SIMOX implanters may be used for more exotic applications. For example, does the insulating layer have to be pure oxygen or are other materials possible? This is pure speculation but there was some significant volume in IBIS stock. If IBM is ordering implanters, as Mark has heard, might they be using them in a unique way (this would also make your contact's statement true)?
