Is all this movie download stuff pure smoke and hype?

Same as music ONCE was. People are downloading movies right now. Mostly on private pirate networks. I have a friend who subscibes and watches movies all the time on his computer.

But there is a different thing (god forbid I use the word paradigm) going on here. From what I was lead to understand you buy the movie, and download it but it's also sent to you on a DVD. So you get the movie overnight and still have a plastic copy for later. If so it's a brilliant marketing solution.

I've watched a few movies on my computer and they look pretty good. The one thing that bothered me is no remote. Apple smartly includes remotes with some models now.

Also you have to realize this is just the start. I'm sure you'll see all of these companies reselling this stuff to people in different versions as time and bandwith goes on, just as some consumers have had the vinyl, CD, CD remastered and finally the iTunes versions of music. It's lucrative to resell the same media over and over to suckers.
