David, I am not a tax account but not a stupid Bean Counter either. Now consider all Corel shares are within a "tax sheltered vehicle" such as a RRSP (This is a Canadian Retirement Savings Plan). How does Capital Gains or Losses affect the funds within this vehicle.

Every portfolio is somewhat unique because of the financial condition and expectations of the Investor. I do not subscribe to your "Novice Investor" theory, and the idea that all investments will be worth less. I believe that, depending on the individual case, being a panic seller might be "a way out". But then, there are those who treat this as an opportunity to buy in. So who losses?
