That is an important part of it; the flip side is the media simply reflecting what their readers and viewers want in an era of hypercommercial media outlets. Politics is a brag and bash game where people participate to have their emotional buttons pushed. Our high schools teach little or no critical social science analysis tools, and only a minority of university students ever go down that road.

So most media consumers don't know how to question things, don't care about any answers about from feeding their pre-canned conceptions, and they won't condemn anyone from their own political camp anyway. Too emotional investment in the crusade.
