First...I go out of town for a couple days, and upon my return I hear through the "grape-vine" that another poster has threatened to use my copyrighted name...TexasDude. It is also rumored that he refered to me as TexassDude...if found to be true, I will hire a lawyer and sue that individual for putting me on reality TV. (:>)

As for brokerage houses looking at your investments...Yep! They do ....especially if you have a "street name" account. But in reality it doesn't even have to be a
"street" account.
1) If you have a margin account, if you place a trade, they will immediately tell you what the margin is for that particular stock....so they must know what the stock is!
2) If you place a trade and your brokerage firm has the stock in their account, they will merely transfer it as a book-book trade...again this lets them know what you are buying or selling.
3 But mainly, if you have a "street" account, it is the brokerage firm that actually holds the stock so they know on daily basis what they hold as an asset. For example...if you are short a stock and the stock issues a dividend, the brokerage firm will immediately debit your account for the dividend amount.

Yep.....Big brother isn't the only party that monitors what we do!!
