Tim, read my comment again. Then read yours. Note that you've said something I did not say. I didn't say you directly said it. It would be logically implied if there was the mirror you are talking about. My point is that the situations are very different. Griping, and even calls for someone to be fired are very different from government orders to fire someone. "have not been disowned" is meaningless. Its very very rare for any such campaigns to be disowned by the national political leadership. If they were associated with it, then its reasonable to ask that they explicitly defend it or disown it, otherwise "have not disowned" just means "have no connection to". In Iran the president directly caused the firing of professors, and not just some extreme fringe.
