Suggest you check Open Interest on any small contract you decide on.

I tried the DJ mini shortly after it began trading but it was so thin you had to anticipate the move and put your order in prior to any move in anticipation.

Maybe it has enough liquidity now.

The only trades I make in Financial Futures are Option Spreads so I have nothing for you.

Perhaps you might look at Currencies. Don't know if they have mini contracts however.
