Samarinda is located on the Island of Kalimantan (a part of Indonesia: other parts of Indonesia include Java, Sumatra, Bali, the Celebes and Irian Jaya etc). Samarinda is also relatively "close" to the Busang site. Samarinda was one of several places where it was believed that Bre-X cores were salted with alluvial/placer gold. Mike de Guzman leapt from the helicopter about 20 minutes after take-off from Samarinda where it had stopped earlier for refuelling after its flight from Balikpapan (further south) where the Indo Assay Laboratories are located.
