A stellar gas giant like Jupiter and Saturn are made up internally of hydrogen along with other gases, some methane for example. When pressure and temperature are high enough the hydrogen begins nuclear reaction to helium like the H-bomb equivalent of sun's engine. If we refer to our gas reserves here on earth we refer to methane and other molecules with more carbon molecules with hydrogen, e.g., ethane (2-Cs), propane (3-Cs), butane (4-Cs) and higher. Hope this helps, old memories of astronomy days, and of course college physics.
