Newt loves to make tortured connections to past wars to justify incompetence in managing this one. I knew Lincoln would have to be brought out as the secret soulmate for GWB, but really....the circumstances were a LITTLE different back in 1861. One thing about Lincoln though, he took responsibility for the incompetence of those he oversaw and the man could actually use the english language in a fashion that made you believe he was up to the job.

What really gets me now is the Administration's analogy to Hitler in 1938. Now, if we really had an analogy here, you know what it would be? Hitler would be staring down France on the Ruhr, rearming, squeezing Austria and who would American invade.....Spain. Right. Spain. Because they were fascist too and that Franco guy might have weapons. He had killed his own people and ...and the Germans and Italians had been in the country at one time.....so rather than deal with Hitler let's invade Spain and get bogged down for years. Sure Franco never joined the Axis, sure he never wanted any part of the dark side of Nazism....but he was a fascist, so we could fight the fascists there so we wouldn't have to fight them here.

All these analogies to the past are tortured at best. This enemy is different. Why not simply deal with the realities of Osama and terrorism without trying to make GWB the moral equivilent of Lincoln or Roosevelt?
