What would be the purpose of a "national discussion" other than getting into finger-pointing mode for the November elections?
The things that were done wrong were not whitewashed, IMO, and they either have been corrected or are in the process of being corrected.
Maybe there's more to the story that you know that I don't know, but I've seen everybody dragged over the coals on this topic ad nauseum, including Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Madelaine Albright, Sandy Berger, Jamie Gorelick, George W. Bush, Condi Rice, George Tenet, Dick Cheney, you name it, they've been blamed loudly and repeatedly by someone every day of the five years since 9/11.
Every position it is possible to take has been thoroughly aired, and continues to be aired.
