@JT A&I re: synchronicity & serendipity are Food For Ideas
After filling up the gas tank paying for two tanks worth by the money's worth of just a couple of years ago i was driving along with the music off, letting my mind drift to wherever it wanted to. While enjoying my usual observations of form and imaginary exercises for mixing color: a minimalist painting was painting itself as if on a huge imaginary roll of paper as it so often does. This lightly mindful multitasking helps me keep paying attention to careful driving and can be amusing myself thinking useful thoughts at the same time instead of being hypnotized by music or radio talk show. This is the very mindset of creativity, everyone gets into it. Its nice. The something else on my mind on that night was -Problems Of Our Society Now- referencing to posts i'd read on WR's "Rats Nest Chronicles Of Collapse" Board - the train of thought had started off by being upset about the amount of money i was now out of pocket, to gas up the car. The forest floor looked lovely with its brown leafy carpet so colorful as seen in the headlights against the black of the night and forest , and after noticing that i was thinking of what wildlife might be living in there as i drove by, unaware of them. Too bad it was impossible to just stop the car, get a flashlight, and take a walk into the woods in the dark there and then... in thinking of why that wouldn't be a good idea, one of the items was imagining what might be living in that primeval spongy carpet of leaves overlaying millenia of munge. That was when The Lightbulb In The Balloon took up residence flying beside the car, and so then my mind was off and running at the synchronicity of a giant WPA-style project harvesting all those leaves and making fuel to run cars cheaper, from it. Those contributing leaves from their property possibly could even make enough fuel credits to pay to haul it there and buy a snack on the way home....Those volunteering to work the project could be paid in either minimum money or (a bit more) in fuel credits... it would be a great excuse for a fiesta & a good family-fun campout social in the great outdoors with camping gear loaned by the Program ... it would also give the forests a much-needed cleanup and make going into them more inviting with less vermin... The title of your board with "Rats" in it, probably inspired that part of the thought about the cleanup effort could be disencouraging to vermin, WR, probably but i can't say for sure. No Code Words... the thought all came together as One - Synchronicity - at that moment...to result in An Idea. So the next day, i posted it. One Idea among many, and perhaps IT isn't practical in The Real World... given the expense of the start-up & the risks. I guess the machines for it are already invented, and would only need to have a weigher for the leaves added and a ticket-printer to give the proper credits to be redeemed for fuel at pumps. Art is functionally impractical, and may be used to raise consciousness about problems in our world... or for comforting frivolity and soothing of the soul which is just as necessary for our lives fulfillment. The progress from an Idea to an It, is similar to an invention, but usually easier. Inventions are Things which address needs as perceived, or solve problems by their function. All Begin With - The Original Idea - which, more often than not, gets put on the shelf for one reason or another. Or is forgotten that very day. The Ideas which make it through the preliminary research of (feasability) and (is it already existant?) may progress to a model, then to a prototype tested at-home by the individual inventor, next- if all that is ok - suppliers, manufacturers, protection, licensing, marketing, funding, legals, display, etc. all becomes "in development" and that's where the fun never stops. The Hobby Shop sells much of the tools and materials needed to make a model of an invention- Taking apart broken and cheap stuff, and browsing the art supply and hardware stores, will supply most of the rest. For something complex or digital or new technology etc.- The Model as it would Appear in it's working environment would still be The Start. Viewing Art Online in a big heap - is inspiring, especially to see What Scrawls and Simplicity One Can Get Away With ! The Original Models and Drawings for an Invention are Valuable Works Of Art worthy of Exhibition.
Good Luck To All !
