Interfaith tolerance has to be one of the main themes to negotiate with Islamic leaders. I like much of what I hear from Khatemi on the subject of political dissidence, but his silence on religious dissidence is alarming.

There can be no mistake about it - Islamic religion is based on intolerant views of other religions. Hopefully, the political dialogues that are now allowed in Islamic countries will promote interfaith respect. I'm not hoping for an all out capitulation on the Laws of Shari'a, despite the complete lack of regard for human values. However, Islamic leaders must respect the rights of other religions to exist peacefully in all dimensions of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.

It's imperative that we hear from Islamic leaders like Khatemi what religious values that Islam does respect. If nothing else, it's a starting point for a dialogue. As for the Canadian Muslim men, I just hope they don't fall in love with the fish up in Canada.<vbg>
