Pro-Bush folks and paid shills, I believe, have been making too much capital out of the following statement allegedly made by Ahmadinejad:

“…Israel must be wiped off the map.”

My info is that he was quoted out of context in order to vilify him when in fact he was merely quoting the late Ayatollah Khomeini.

I was told that wiping Israel off the map simply means a name change for Israel after its inhabitants have been re-located elsewhere. So, wiping Israel from the map simply entails erasing the name "Israel" from the map and entering a new name in its stead. Needless to say, several countries have been "wiped off the map" in this way.
