Has the taco bubble burst?

blog-taco.bmpWe all extrapolate various economic factors into bigger trends. Home prices. Job counts. Selling activity. Mortgage rates. Foreclosures. Fed comments.

When I tire of the offcial stats, I like to watch what the fast-food joints are doing. These managers are touching people wallet's every day. And their customers are the types who get easily swung up and down by the broader economy.

So take this for what you think it's worth: Del Taco's now pitching 49-cent tacos, for a limited time. That's a dime off the usual selling price.

Is it a signal of economic weakness? That's not good for real estate. Or is it just a marketing gimmick to boost a chain's competitiveness?

I can only imagine what folks on this blog would be thinking if home prices were "for a limted time" ... down 17%!
