Holding mutually contradictory believes is an essential part of humanity AFAIK. It comes down to the degree of overlap. I tend to vote Democrat, but there are many Democratic positions I don't agree with. I think the fundamental tie between Libertarian and fundamentalist Christians of many flavors is a very strong identification with "freedom of choice" as the dominant mode of human action. Christians push this from a perception of Cosmic importance at the root of conflict between Good and Evil. Libertarians push it because they fell in love with the Greek view of Mind over Body I think. Both of those roots are at odds with evolution, but for very different reasons.
