K8L is a red herring.

Call it Next Generation Architecture. That's what AMD is calling it. It has an extra FPU and enhanced IPC. This is all clearly spelled out in the analyst day slides. The performance given for it clearly indicated 50% better floating point performance. This latest slide is just more confirmation.

AMD is going to put out new products in their usual cycle. The mobile chip is coming late Q1-Q2. Server QC are coming mid '07. DC desktop is coming mid '07 also. The mobile chip will be a ground up design. The desktop and server are going to be NGA.

People are getting confused because 65nm process is being used for rev F products starting in October and ramping up to crossover in Jan'07. This is being done to increase chips/wafer. There may be changes to speed and power grades too. No one knows. I suspect business plan will be as important or more important than what can be done technically.

Keep in mind that AMD is selling as many products as they can make. So they don't have to do anything other than make more. '07 is another matter as C2D ramps to real volume.

A same IPC rev. G is wishful thinking on the part of Intel fans. If you are someone that believes this, my advice to you is forget the trade magazines and listen to what AMD is advertising. The trade magazines are spewing out scenarios that don't make any sense from a business perspective.

And for god's sake, stop using the 'K8L' name. It doesn't mean anything.
